Self-Worth

(Available free with and many other themes in the Thinkladder App).

Having a strong sense of self-worth is vital to our well-being. We all have moments where we feel insecure, vulnerable, and unworthy. But some of us spend the majority of our lives struggling to connect with our worth. We might feel like we are undeserving of love and care, or that we must earn our acceptance by performing well or doing things for others. It can be hard to consistently live with a deep knowledge of our innate value.

It is possible to realise our own worthiness. One of the ways that we can begin our journey is to discover the limiting beliefs that are underlying these feelings. These may be something like, ‘I have to improve myself before I can become lovable,’ or, ‘Because I am broken, I am worthless.’

Once we uncover these painful beliefs, we can begin the journey of replacing them with the truth of how worthy we really are. As these new, life-giving beliefs start to take root in our hearts and minds, a confident and assured version of ourselves w

Insights from the ‘Self-Worth’ Theme

My value does not lie in my strengths and abilities, but innately in my being.
The lack of attention I received as a child was the result of my parent’s insecurities, blind spots and personal struggles – not a reflection of my worth or significance. I was created full of wonder, and worth a lifetime of exploring.
As I give myself the gift of unconditional acceptance, I will find that I am easy to love.
I have intrinsic value that can neither be earned nor measured.
I am good. I am okay. I am acceptable as I am, and I have always been.

Practical tips to boost self-worth:

Focus on your strengths: Make a list of your strengths, accomplishments, and positive attributes, and remind yourself of them regularly. Celebrate your successes, no matter how small, because you are growing in your life and making a contribution to the world.

Practice self-compassion: Treat yourself with kindness and understanding. Instead of criticising yourself for your mistakes or perceived shortcomings, offer yourself empathy and support.

Recognise your innate value as a human being: Your worth as a human being is not determined by external factors such as your appearance, achievements, or relationships. You are inherently valuable simply because you exist.

Seek support: Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or mental health professional about your feelings. They can provide support and help you develop strategies for improving your self-worth. Notice when others support and encourage you, and remind yourself that it is because they value you.

Address the root cause of your feelings: Consider the root cause of your feelings of unworthiness. Is there a specific experience that has contributed to these feelings? Identifying the cause can help you develop strategies for addressing and overcoming them. Pay attention to negative beliefs you have about yourself and challenge them. Ask yourself if they are true or helpful, and replace them with more positive and supportive beliefs. Thinkladder can be a helpful resource when it comes to re-assessing your beliefs and finding new, uplifting Insights that empower you to be the best version of yourself.
